Ashtanga Yoga - Level 1 (Power Yoga)

A vigorous flowing yoga practice that consists of a series of well defined movements. Practicing Surya Namaskara A & B (Sun-Salutations) combined with Uujjayi breathing, creates a rhythm helping to focus the mind as well as create heat in the body. The heat created leads to purification of the bodies muscles & organs through increased circulation & sweating. It also improves flexibility, strength & body mind awareness, which allows the student to practice advanced asanas without risk of injury. We will practice from your present condition while on your yoga mat and while off the mat in daily life.

Chakra Yoga

Become more aware of your subtle energy body relating to the seven power centres in your body, chakras. Each Chakra governs a different portion of the body, & the psyche, & so creates the physical body itself. The state of each chakra reflects the health of a particular area of your body. It also reflects your psychological, emotional & spiritual well-being. ( Lecture & Practice)

Through Yoga Asanas (postures) & guided meditation we will explore your power centres and see how they reflect what's happening in your body, in your life. Unplug from negative thoughts & perceptions & live as a healthier, more empowered person.

Chandra Namaskra Yoga (Hatha / Vinyasa Yoga)

Although not as common as Suyra Namaskara, Chandra Namaskara is an integral part of any balanced yoga practice. Moon Salutations, are a variation of the classic Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) and are designed to be relaxing and restorative for the body and mind. The Moon is of particular importance in Hatha Yoga as "ha" means sun and "tha" means moon. Hatha Yoga then is meant to bring unity and balance between these two opposites. While the sun it warming and invigorating, the moon is cooling and calming in contrast, the Moon Salutations cools and calms the nervous system, and includes several of the most beneficial postures for menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. Men of course enjoy practicing Moon Salutation because it is such a powerful psychological and spiritual counterbalance to the Sun Salutation. While the Sun Salutation enacts the hero's journey-stepping forward to face life's challenges--the Moon Salutation enacts the journey of descent--sinking into the depths to discover one's creativity, the process of literal or metaphoric birth.

This amazing class is great for any time of day, but is especially beneficial when performed in the evening as the series of poses is designed to calm the mind and relax every muscle in the body.

Explore the movements of Chandra Namaskara and give yourself the tools and confidence to explore your Being.
